Don’t forget my story

Many things in life have caused me pain
as the battle of life gets tougher each day
Life is a struggle for the strong
the weak have no share or heritage in it.

I find life comparable to a device beyond recovery
I refuse to give up because I have a mission to accomplish
Although life continues to supply me with reasons to grief
God's intervention has always put me on the right track.

I see life as a battle to be won by faith
I pray with passion for God's grace and mercy
I am confident that I will rewrite the pages of my story
No matter the cost, I'm determined to fight for my right.

I was enjoying my favourite devotional songs in my room
They called my number. They called a few others
The system is full of lies, tricks, illusions and falsehoods
It is full of deceit and fraud.

My people, what news do we believe?
Whom do we believe in this nation of ours?
My governor has been bribed with blood money
All our rulers want their share of the COVID-19 loot.

On my own, I came for a funeral
My mother died
Should I say it's a pity to die in this period of coronavirus?
Yes, it is.

Our people are known for malaria as a major sickness
Even pregnancy has become a sickness nowadays
Vomiting, nausea and headache have become a virus symptom
they are no longer signs of pregnancy.

My  younger sister is two months pregnant
Back to the hospital for a checkup, her card registered as a COVID-19 patient
On questioning the why of such a sudden development
She was told it's the government's instruction.

My sister's son had a convulsion in the night
On getting to the hospital after treatment
the hospital card was coronavirus positive
the nurse refused to correct the mistake; she was scared to lose her job?

My next-door-neighbour went to treat his injury for an accident he sustained
His hospital card was enrolled as a COVID-19 case
We are astonished at the story behind these claims
Ill-gotten wealth, fraud and dishonesty are evil.

Who lured us into this modern evil?
COVID-19 is the leading illness in my nation
I'm just informed about a woman who moved into the hospital because of stress
They kept her, locked her up for over three months. Her liberty is ruin.

She is been stigmatised for nothing true
Our leaders are involved in the scam
Our governors want to have a share in this free money
It is a total shame on them.

The money that would have been for a palliative for masses
all gathered together to share for the powers that be
Who is fooling who in this nation?
This is another period for amassing ill-gotten wealth.

Sometimes I sit and wonder
where are our morals and integrity have gone to
Whom did we sell our mental skills to?
The love of money is a deadly disease worse than COVID-19.

If America could lose over 2000 people in a day
Britain lost over 1000 people within the space of 24 hours
Why can't we learn from them the vanity of life?
Our life can be snuffed out anytime.

Spare me this long talk of COVID-19 and be honest for once
Tell our people the truth about the world and the events of life
Don't force sickness on people
or push our leaders to present a list of COVID-19 cases.

I am tired of this country of lies and the evil leaders we have
Know it that a day of reckoning is approaching
You will account to God what you did with your intelligence
Don't forget my story.
