Saint Agnes

The little lamb - Feastday January 21

Saint Agnes, virgin and martyr
Sweet and gentle as a lamb
Warmhearted and kind to everyone
She lived the life of an angel.

She was like a pretty flower in marshy ground
planted in a city of sin and corruption
Stagnant poots of putrid water emitted poisonous vapour to blight it
but the delicate plant protected itself with the odour of its sweetness.

For Agnes, life is not to be counted by years,
but the manner of spending it
She placed God above all things
Everything she did showed her noble mind and her generous heart.

Though fearless, she was modest and courageous
She was not weakened by persecution and torture
She sort for the love of her heart
She bore witness to Christ by Marty's death.

Clothed in the garment of mercy
Agnes consecrated herself to God
She guarded herself against unhealthy excitements
Her pure soul knew only God's love.

Her aspirations were of heaven
The longings of her heart were to be with God
In her death modesty survived
In her martyrdom, her confidence was not misplaced.

Saint Agnes was a chaste spouse of Christ
Her faith was kept in the Lord
She was constant into God
She is hope and model for us all.

Agnes died young but her principles lived on
In her life, all ascribed to her a double crown
a crown of chastity and martyrdom
What a beautiful and saintly life!
